Andalucia day 5: Sevilla

We stopped in Sevilla for only a nice long afternoon. It is clearly a great place, and one I'd love to go back to, but we had only a few days left and some things we really wanted to see, so Sevilla got short shrift. Still...it was gorgeous. Like everything else we saw on this trip. The city is filled with orange trees, all of which were bearing fruit (some of which were being harvested). We even saw a kid with a balloon (in keeping with a theme from earlier days). Sevilla is the home of the world's largest gothic cathedral. We went into some smaller parts on the sides, but decided not to wait in line for the big tour. BUT, there was another balloon--obviously accidentally released and floating up at the cathedral ceiling...Lefteris wanted to go on a horse-drawn carriage ride almost as much as I'd wanted to see the monkeys in Gibraltar. So we did! I will admit I thought it was too touristy before we started. But we had so much fun in Morocco, and he REALLY wanted to go, and once we started I decided to live it up. And you know what? It was seriously awesome. We saw so many things we wouldn't ever have seen otherwise. It was just great. There were carriages all over the place, actually, including one right behind us for awhile. This is where they filmed the scene where Princess Amidala gives the weird glowing orb to Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Attack of the Clones. It was a good opportunity to work on my Spanish with the guide. And the horse was great at posing for photos. We drove on to Cordoba that night, stayed up late watching the international news and enjoying our room, and then went to the Mezquita first thing the next morning...all of that coming up!Earlier:Day 4: GibraltarDay 3 part 2: MoroccoDay 3 part 1: Algeciras port and ferryDay 2: the mountains and the coastDay 1 part 2: GranadaDay 1 part 1: AlhambraLater: Day 6 part 1: the Mezquita
