Jenna and Adam are having another baby

My wonderful sister-in-law Jenna is due to give birth to my new niece in about three weeks! I’ve been shooting (and sharing) family pictures of these beautiful people for many years now, of course, but one of the most memorable shoots was in Hawaii during Jenna’s pregnancy with Logan (I was also pregnant with Perry at the time, and we took a joint babymoon – so fun!). We decided to keep that in mind as we did this shoot. Here are a few highlights from that original maternity shoot: Idalia and I made a quick weekend trip up to Seattle[…]

Perry is one!

Perry’s first birthday was on Friday, and I can’t believe it…like I REALLY can’t believe it. He’s so much fun these days, and I am so, so lucky to be able to spend so much time with him. I love our little family, and I love my son like crazy. I’m extremely thankful. Since this is a monumental occasion, I felt that we needed a “formal” portrait. Did you know you can get a baby-sized tuxedo on Amazon for twenty-six bucks? Yep.

Anastasia and Panagiotis’s wedding in Skopelos

This wedding experience was a multi-day affair on the Greek island of Skopelos – most famous as the island where Mamma Mia was filmed. And, I feel I should start out by saying that Skopelos is every bit as beautiful as you’d hope in real life – honestly, even better than in the movie. Guests arrived on ferries and stayed in the beautiful town. On the Thursday before the wedding, there was a traditional ceremony at the bride’s family’s house where the older female relatives of the bride and groom came together to make traditional sweets. The sweets were made[…]

Peter K headshots

En route to Greece for a couple of weeks, we stopped off in London to see old friends and visit old haunts. Four days in London was exactly right…all of the good stuff and we were gone before I got too irritated at all the things that used to bug me. 🙂 Now if we can only convince our friends to move closer to us… One of the highlights of the trip was doing a quick headshot session for my very very good friend, the talented artist Peter. We had a 30 minute window between a stop at the flat[…]

Nicole & Joe are having babies!

Actually, they just HAD their babies, but newborn photos will come later! This is the first time I’ve ever shot maternity photos, and I LOVED IT. I would love love love to do more of this! People who are having babies, take note! We shot in and around their house, and particularly the nursery. Nicole has done a fantastic job of putting the nursery together – so we had to take advantage of that. There are more photos in the portfolio, but here are my absolute faves:

Dr. Gabriel McClelland, reculsive author and professor of Gabeology

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of shooting the portraits that will run alongside an interview with the world’s leading Gabeologist. Having always considered myself something of an amateur Gabeologist myself, this was a delight. The maestro was in rare form. All of those, with the exception of the wide shot of the room, were shot with my 50mm f/1.2. The wide shot was my 24-70 f/2.8. That 50mm…I mean, really. The light is so beautiful, and that lens just seems to wrap it around everything like a cashmere blanket. These photos are exactly the kind of work[…]

Organic Lavender Fields

…just imagine the smell! We spent a day at Mayfield Lavender in Surrey with some friends, and I just posted my portfolio from this outing, so I want to feature a few of my favorite images in the coming days. First up: my favorite shot of Ina. I continue to be on a roll with these out-of-focus-foreground portraits. I’ve really been enjoying shooting them…I’m sure the urge will run its course before too long, but for now I’m just going to go with it until I get it out of my system. In this shot, I love the way her[…]

How I shot it: Ashley & Aaron’s master wedding photo

**More about my engagement soon, I promise!** A couple of years ago, I saw the book Masters’ Guide to Wedding Photography: Capturing Unforgettable Moments and Lasting Impressions by Marcus Bell. I really can’t recommend that book enough; it made me think about wedding photography in a whole new way. It also made me subscribe to Marcus Bell’s blog, which is a constant source of inspiration. The thing I like best about his photography are the landscape-style master portraits he creates, and as soon as I saw the Abita Quail Farm, where Aaron and Ashley had their ceremony and reception, I[…]
