Jenna and Adam are having another baby

My wonderful sister-in-law Jenna is due to give birth to my new niece in about three weeks! I’ve been shooting (and sharing) family pictures of these beautiful people for many years now, of course, but one of the most memorable shoots was in Hawaii during Jenna’s pregnancy with Logan (I was also pregnant with Perry at the time, and we took a joint babymoon – so fun!). We decided to keep that in mind as we did this shoot. Here are a few highlights from that original maternity shoot: Idalia and I made a quick weekend trip up to Seattle[…]

Welcome, Idalia Kai Grammatas!

On February 24th, at 12:30 am, I gave birth to a wonderful, beautiful, healthy baby girl. She came about 3 weeks early, catching us a little bit off guard, but Lefteris is a veteran dad now and he got the house, and Perry, in order while I labored at home for a few hours. We had a wonderful experience at the hospital, and truly couldn’t have imagined a better labor and birth overall. Now we’re home with our daughter and her big brother, settling into our new normal family life and loving it. She’s an amazing baby – so good-natured[…]

Perry is one!

Perry’s first birthday was on Friday, and I can’t believe it…like I REALLY can’t believe it. He’s so much fun these days, and I am so, so lucky to be able to spend so much time with him. I love our little family, and I love my son like crazy. I’m extremely thankful. Since this is a monumental occasion, I felt that we needed a “formal” portrait. Did you know you can get a baby-sized tuxedo on Amazon for twenty-six bucks? Yep.

Anna, Teo, and Chloe family portraits

On our way back from Anastasia and Panagiotis’s wedding, we shared our ferry ride with Anna and Teo and their beautiful daughter Chloe. I was thrilled to do some photos of them, but definitely less than thrilled with the light on the boat. Surprisingly these ferries often have tiny windows and sad flourescent light inside. And outside, there’s plenty of light but it’s not ideal for a baby! In any case, that made for an interesting challenge photography-wise, which I suppose is just keeping things interesting since this family is so terrifically beautiful that it would all just be too[…]

Peter K headshots

En route to Greece for a couple of weeks, we stopped off in London to see old friends and visit old haunts. Four days in London was exactly right…all of the good stuff and we were gone before I got too irritated at all the things that used to bug me. 🙂 Now if we can only convince our friends to move closer to us… One of the highlights of the trip was doing a quick headshot session for my very very good friend, the talented artist Peter. We had a 30 minute window between a stop at the flat[…]

Mommy & Me (& Mohawks)

It started with a washable marker and a comb. …and a black backdrop (just muslin – about $30 from Amazon – required some touchup afterward, but that was easy peasy). And now, we have a fun and unique portfolio of 8-month-old photos of Perry. If you look closely, you can even see his one-and-so-far-only tooth in a couple of these! I set up the lighting and camera, and Lefteris clicked the shutter on the photos that incude both of us. We used one flash shot through an umbrella, balanced with either the bounce from a large reflector on the opposite[…]

Nicole & Joe are having babies!

Actually, they just HAD their babies, but newborn photos will come later! This is the first time I’ve ever shot maternity photos, and I LOVED IT. I would love love love to do more of this! People who are having babies, take note! We shot in and around their house, and particularly the nursery. Nicole has done a fantastic job of putting the nursery together – so we had to take advantage of that. There are more photos in the portfolio, but here are my absolute faves:

Geneva: CERN and a carnival

While we’re on the topic of nerds, here’s some more from Geneva. We took a tour of CERN (Best. Birthday present. EVER.), and went to a carnival. You decide which was which… Okay, the last one was a “gimme”. In any case, if you can go to CERN, YOU SHOULD. The tour was fun – complete with a 3-D surround-sound-headphone movie – and we got to see nerds at work. You can’t actually go into the LHC, obviously, when it’s working. So we just watched people analyzing stuff in a big control room. Look how many monitors they have! I[…]
