2014 – what a year

So much excitement, but so little blogging. Here we are headed into 2015…I hope for just as much love and happiness as 2014 brought, along with a little more time for personal projects! Lefteris and I had a magical afternoon on Treasure Island the first time he came to visit. It was after I’d spent a summer in London and decided to move there for another year or so, so I had to come back to California to pack up my stuff. Lefteris joined me for a week, and we like to say that California seduced him on that trip[…]

Nerdy Perry

Your tiny accountant is ready to complete your taxes. He’s disappointed that you didn’t prepare your documents! He ponders how to proceed. There’s no use just sitting on the information he already has. Finally, he leaps to action! Something seems askew. Time to crunch some numbers… Success! You’re getting a refund 🙂 Lefteris and I are both big, big nerds, so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. By the way, I’m doing everything I can not to *constantly* post photos of my (supremely adorable) son; instead I’m limiting myself only to extra-special shoots. In[…]

Kilouba

…is the Greek word for “giant belly”, and that is what I have right now. Many thanks to Emily for the awesome photos! I’m due in less than a month and can hardly wait to meet this not-so-tiny-anymore human robot growing inside my body. How bizarre and wonderful. If this isn’t enough, all the photos are here – and I promise, we’ll be getting to things that aren’t photos of ME ME ME very shortly.

Me in the Moroccan Room

Emily and I really had such a great time in our Moroccan-room-shoot. I love playing like this, because we both get to be on both sides of the lens – and I think that is an invaluable experience for any photographer who’s remotely interested in shooting people, or particularly posed portraits. We have another “official” maternity shoot planned in the next few weeks, but I’m quite visibly pregnant now and there’s no reason (and no way!!) to hide that – so this was a maternity shoot too. And finally, one of my favorite photos of myself EVER, pregnant or not.[…]

Emily in the Moroccan Room

For years I’ve wanted to go to Morocco. Since (years ago anyway) that seemed unbelievably far away, I started collecting Moroccan stuff and eventually made Moroccan bedrooms for myself in a few different apartments. (Click the images to see more) When we moved into our house here after getting back from London, I thought: Moroccan dining room. Maybe a week later I realized I was pregnant, and after that news sank in, it was pretty clear we were going to want to make that dining room into the nursery eventually. I have zero, zilch, possibly negative desire to make a[…]

Our wedding – the “pie-cutting”

When I started to write this post, the first thing I thought was, I’ll need a link so people can learn more about the pie cutting…and so I can make sure I understand it correctly. After searching and searching (“greek wedding pie-cutting ceremony” and all possible variations) I pretty much gave up on finding an English-language online explanation of this particular event. So I asked Lefteris about this. The conversation went like this: Me: What’s the pie-cutting ceremony called in Greek? Him: Well, I’m calling it the “pie cutting” because it’s nicer for Americans. Me: Okay…but what’s it called in[…]

Our Big Fat Greek Wedding

Well, we finally did it! As you may already know, Lefteris and I had our civil marriage almost a year ago in London. And while we’ve been very much married this year, we never thought of that as the “wedding” – we’ve been planning THIS wedding in Greece ever since. (What we didn’t plan is that I’d be 6 months pregnant for the wedding!) Photos were done by my photography mentor and great friend, the lovely and talented Emily Wheeler. So on July 14, we made it even more official, by having back-to-back Greek Orthodox and American ceremonies at the[…]

A great day with Emily at the coast

Emily is one of my very best friends, AND she’s the person who got me started in photography a couple of years ago. We haven’t seen each other since I moved to London, but as soon as we did…it was like we were just doing this yesterday. We drove down Skyline, over to Santa Cruz, and up to Davenport – my favorite secret beach. We didn’t even go down to the beach – just hung out on and around the old train tracks taking photos. The sun was starting to go down, and the fog was rolling in. We drove[…]
