Despo, Theodore, and Perseus

We’ve been seeing a lot of this sofa lately. Well, here’s one more session, but this time I did something different with it – added a backdrop, and lit it with an umbrella instead of window light. These are Lefteris’s parents, Perry’s grandparents, and two people for whom I am extremely grateful – for raising an amazing son (two amazing sons actually, but I’m only married to one!) and for welcoming me into their family with such acceptance and generosity. When Despo asked me to take photos of them with Perseus I immediately thought of this setup – and I[…]

Adam, Jenna, & Logan

I think I already published this – but my site was hacked a little while ago (boo hoo) and I think it got deleted. Either that, or I have the dreaded “mommy brain”. Regardless, these people are so good-looking there’s no way I can stop myself from highlighting this shoot. I’ve had a lot of fun shooting my brother Adam and sister-in-law Jenna over the years. Favorites were our weekend in Paris and their maternity shoot. Now their little guy, Logan, is here! Over Christmas he was about 5 months old and we took the opportunity to do some great[…]

Happy Holidays

…from Perry and his cousin Logan! “…and there were THIIIIIIIS many presents!!” “…it was exhausting…I’m not even sure what happened after I fell asleep.” (This is what being a parent is about…right? Putting a fake moustache on your kid and documenting it for posterity? Sounds right to me…) Share this…TwitterLinkedinPinterestemailGoogle+

And now, we wait. (And hang out in the Explorer’s Room.)

We’re as ready as we’re gonna get. How do you really prepare for a baby? We have all of the truly necessary stuff, we’ve put everything in order, and we’ve cleared our schedules for the coming weeks. But I can’t think of anything we can do to even begin to prepare ourselves mentally for the fact that our little Robotaki is about to emerge and become a real, live, screaming human. I’m due in four days, which means this could happen anytime…we just don’t know when! Back in London, we used to do a lot of traveling with friends. Usually[…]

Me in the Moroccan Room

Emily and I really had such a great time in our Moroccan-room-shoot. I love playing like this, because we both get to be on both sides of the lens – and I think that is an invaluable experience for any photographer who’s remotely interested in shooting people, or particularly posed portraits. We have another “official” maternity shoot planned in the next few weeks, but I’m quite visibly pregnant now and there’s no reason (and no way!!) to hide that – so this was a maternity shoot too. And finally, one of my favorite photos of myself EVER, pregnant or not.[…]

Emily in the Moroccan Room

For years I’ve wanted to go to Morocco. Since (years ago anyway) that seemed unbelievably far away, I started collecting Moroccan stuff and eventually made Moroccan bedrooms for myself in a few different apartments. (Click the images to see more) When we moved into our house here after getting back from London, I thought: Moroccan dining room. Maybe a week later I realized I was pregnant, and after that news sank in, it was pretty clear we were going to want to make that dining room into the nursery eventually. I have zero, zilch, possibly negative desire to make a[…]

Capture the Color contest

We are *just* about to leave for Greece for our Big Fat Greek Wedding, but I saw this contest on another blog and I just had to enter. It’s called Capture the Color and it works like this: you put together five photos (with captions) from around the world, one from each color, and you nominate five other bloggers at the bottom of your post. So here goes! Blue While living in London, I took a spontaneous weekend trip alone to Zadar, Croatia. For two days all I did was wander the old town, eat ice cream, and take photos.[…]

Jenna & Adam’s maternity shoot

My sister-in-law Jenna is pregnant! We took a little trip to Hawaii recently to celebrate our co-pregnancy (and to make Lefteris say, “ARE YOU JOKING ME???” possibly hundreds of times as we drove around Oahu and he marveled at the tropical-ness of it all), and included a weekend in Kauai. I’ve spent a lot of time recently thinking about what it means to me to be pregnant, because, you know, not only am I knocked up myself, but I’ve never before had “pregnant lady” or “mom” as part of my self-image. Knowing I’d be seeing Adam and Jenna – and[…]

ZAAZ photos (round two) are up!

Following on the success of the first round of fashion-y photos of my ZAAZ London colleagues, we went for round 2 with the new folks. This time I shot seven people instead of the original 18, which really gave me some time to get it RIGHT. I feel like I learned a lot the first time around, and actually I wrote some posts about how I shot some of those portraits, too. There will be more of those posts to come! You can enjoy the full portfolio here – it’s worth it! Here are some selects to tempt you… Share[…]

Door buzzers in Venice: they look like faces

Surely I am not suffering from an awful case of pareidolia: these buzzers, all over Venice, REALLY looked like faces. Take a look at the whole portfolio – seriously, it’s WEIRD! And they all have different personalities! “ACK! I didn’t see you there!” “Hey, good-lookin…” “Ooooooooh” Many more in the portfolio! Share this…TwitterLinkedinPinterestemailGoogle+
