Andalucia Christmas road trip
We were intending to go to Egypt for the holidays, but as my great friend Vivi put it to me in an email recently, "Where did you end up going? I know you too well to assume the last place you said you were going to is where you actually went to..." She's right. Spain seemed more relaxing, closer, and also less expensive at the last minute (since I tend to plan all personal travel at the last minute that's important). So we flew into Malaga, rented a car, and spent a little over a week exploring. It was outstanding and extremely varied. Things we did/places we visited include:
- the Alhambra (AMAZING)
- the south coast of Spain which was sunny and beautiful
- tapas tapas tapas
- took a ferry to Morocco for a day
- climbed all over the rock of Gibraltar and played with the monkeys there
- took a horse-drawn carriage ride around Seville
- the Mezquita (unbelievable)
- a town in the mountains built on two sides of a, like, 390-foot gorge with an incredible bridge spanning the gorge
- two nights at a 5-star resort in a suite on the beach at a totally reasonable price because it was the off season
- a day at a spa (at the resort) including 2 hammams, a bunch of pools (some with seawater), a steam room, an "igloo" room, a couple of roman-style baths...
And this was in like...8 days. And I didn't even mention the camel. So there's a lot to come. Here are some teasers:Update: The detailed trip coverage starts here!
