Anders and Nicole
A weekend in London with Anders and Nicole unexpectedly equalled a lot of great photo ops. They're great traveling companions--and although at this point I wasn't really traveling (we stayed in London), we did manage to find some new spots with killer photo possibilities. Here we are at the Laban Dance Centre, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, who also did the Tate Modern. This building is great--multi-colored facade, and all of the windows are mirrored, which was fun to play with. We'd been hanging in Greenwich and waited out a downpour in a cafe, then went in search of this. So when we found it, everything--walls, pavement, grass--was wet and shiny from the rain. As we stood outside admiring, the sun came out from behind a cloud, and I realized that we had an AMAZING photo opp: we happened to be on the sunny side of the building, and the sun was reflecting off of the huge mirrors and providing incredible fill light--not to mention the reflections from the wet pavement and grass. There was so much light bouncing around that we were able to do some awesome jumping shots. This was shot at ISO 400, f/5.0, 1/3200 or so, and there are tons more if you click through to the album.Earlier, we'd walked through the tunnel under the Thames to Greenwich, and THAT was pretty awesome:The night before we were at a little cocktail bar, and I did some closeups. It took a lot of shooting before they got used to having a giant lens in their faces and forgot about me, but it was worth it!
