Our online actions are interpreted by unsympathetic algorithms, our experiences are customized, our interests monetized.  Each of us lives in a “filter bubble” that slowly becomes more and more opaque.

In this age where the very concept of universal, shared truths is under attack, I’m comforted by the gentle, stoic rationality of geometric proofs.  With a compass, a straightedge, and a curious mind, any person can discover and recreate the same geometric truths held in my current series of works.  Double a distance; construct a perpendicular bisector; halve a distance.  Find tangents to a circle.  Each discovery builds to the next, and each step carries the student toward more obscured and abstract truths.

In this series of works, these proofs have become fictional landscapes, with the solutions partially obscured behind towering walls.  What are they made of, and how did they come to be?  An orb rises from a sea into the sky, the circle facilitating solution after solution; what is it?  As the viewer feels herself floating in a duet with the orb, the experience balances on a razor’s edge between uneasy insignificance and a curious hope.  What will she learn, or find?  Where is the orb going, and what - or who - lies beyond these walls?
